Terms of Service & Privacy
You own the books you write with Book Writer. This page is the agreement for using the service and the statement of how we handle your data.
Last updated September 18, 2026. Using Book Writer, or creating an account, means you accept these terms.
Terms of Service
The service
Book Writer is an online tool that turns a book idea into a planned, drafted, and exportable manuscript. You give us a premise or notes. The system plans the story, writes scene by scene, checks continuity, and prepares downloads. You can watch, steer, or leave it running.
These terms are between you and the operator of Book Writer (“we”, “us”). They apply to the website, your account, and every book created in it. If you use Book Writer on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. The service is not directed at children.
Accounts
You are responsible for the email and password you use to sign in, and for everything done in your workspace. Keep your password private. Tell us if you believe the account has been used without your permission.
Give us accurate account information. The name and pen name you set are used on covers, title pages, and other printed matter you generate. You are responsible for how those names appear on work you publish.
One person should use one account. Do not share a login, and do not create accounts in order to evade a suspension or a spending limit.
Your books belong to you
You own the rights to the books you generate. That includes the original idea you submit, the notes and edits you add, the approved plan, and the manuscript, covers, illustrations, and export files produced for your account.
We do not claim copyright in your books. Subject to these terms and to any rights that belong to other people (for example, material you asked us to include that you do not own), you may keep, edit, publish, sell, adapt, or otherwise use that work. You do not need our permission to publish a book you created here.
What you do not own is Book Writer itself: the software, prompts, interface, branding, documentation, and the sample books we show on the public site. Those remain ours or our licensors’. You also do not receive any right to the underlying AI models.
You represent that your inputs are yours to use, or that you have the right to use them. Do not submit other people’s copyrighted books, private personal information, or confidential material you are not allowed to share.
AI-generated writing can resemble other work. We do not warrant that a manuscript is unique, publishable, or free of similarity to existing books. You decide what to publish and you are responsible for that decision, including copyright, defamation, and publicity rights in the jurisdictions where you publish.
The license you grant us
To run the service we need a limited license from you. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, copy, process, transmit, and display your inputs and generated work solely so we can operate Book Writer for you: planning, writing, checking, illustrating, covering, exporting, showing the studio, and providing support you ask for.
That license ends when your content is deleted from our systems, except for copies that remain for a short time in backups as described under Privacy, or that we must keep to meet a legal obligation.
We do not sell your manuscripts. We do not use your books to train a Book Writer model of our own. We do not grant other customers access to your work.
Credits and payments
Generation uses prepaid credits. New accounts receive a starting balance. You can buy more. Credits are drawn only for work a book actually requires — planning, writing, checking, covers, illustrations, and similar paid steps — not for reading or ordinary editing in the studio.
You set spending limits. Writing pauses before a limit is exceeded. Credits do not expire while your account is open.
Purchases are processed by our payment provider. We do not store full card numbers. Prices and available packages can change; a change does not alter credits you already bought. Unused purchased credits are generally not refundable except where the law requires it or we agree otherwise in a particular case. If a payment is reversed or charged back, we may deduct the matching credits or suspend generation until the account is in good standing.
A payment problem pauses new generation. Existing manuscripts remain readable and exportable by default.
Acceptable use
Use Book Writer for your own writing. Do not:
- Try to reach another customer’s books, workspace, or files.
- Interfere with the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without our written permission, or overload it.
- Use it to produce or store child sexual abuse material, or other content that is illegal where you are or where we operate.
- Submit malware, or use generated output to attack systems or people.
- Resell raw access to the service, scrape it systematically, or use it to train a competing writing model.
- Misrepresent Book Writer-generated work as having been reviewed or endorsed by us.
We may pause or close an account that breaks these rules, or that we reasonably believe is being used to harm the service or other people. We will try to preserve your ability to export work you already have, unless the law or the nature of the abuse makes that impossible.
How AI is used
Manuscript text, notes, and related excerpts are sent to the AI providers we have configured so the system can plan, write, check, illustrate, and discuss your book. Those providers process the text to fulfill the request. We keep provider keys on our servers. We do not promise anything about a provider’s own retention or training practices beyond what that provider states in its current terms and in the configuration we have verified.
Automated checks find continuity and style problems for review. No software can promise a flawless novel, and we do not. The finished manuscript is a draft you can edit. You remain the author for the purpose of deciding what is finished and what is published.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep Book Writer running, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, failures, or provider outages can delay a book. Progress is stored on our servers so a run can resume after an interruption.
We may change features, models, limits, or these terms. If a change is material, we will post the updated page and, when we have an email for you, we will notify the address on the account. Continued use after the update takes effect is acceptance of the new terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service and delete your books and account.
Ending the service
You may delete a book at any time. Deletion cancels active runs, removes access immediately, and queues removal of the manuscript, memory, exports, and related files. You may close your account by asking us from the email address on that account.
We may suspend or end the service, or your access to it, if we stop operating Book Writer, if required by law, or if you materially breach these terms. We will give reasonable notice when we can. Export what you need before you leave; we are not obliged to keep a closed account online indefinitely.
Disclaimers
Book Writer is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that a book will meet a particular literary standard, word count, market, or publisher’s requirements, or that automated checks will catch every error. Output can be incomplete, uneven, or wrong. You should read what you publish.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or the cost of substitute writing, arising from the service or from a book produced with it.
Our total liability for any claim relating to Book Writer is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for credits in the twelve months before the claim, and (b) fifty Canadian dollars. Some places do not allow these limits; in those places the limit is the maximum the law permits.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction, except that we may seek injunctive relief anywhere if needed to protect the service or other customers.
If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. A failure to enforce a term is not a waiver. You may not assign the agreement without our consent; we may assign it as part of a sale or reorganization of the service.
Privacy statement
This statement explains what we collect, why, how we protect it, and the choices you have. It covers the Book Writer website and the books in your workspace.
What we collect
- Account data. Name, optional pen name, email, and a hashed password. We also record last sign-in time and whether the account is an operator account.
- Your books. The idea you submit, settings, the plan, manuscript text, chat with the book, covers, illustrations, exports, and related working files.
- Usage and billing. Credit balance, reservations, what each run consumed, and purchase records. Card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored by us as full card numbers.
- Technical data. Standard server logs such as IP address, time, and request path, with a request identifier. We do not log full manuscripts, session tokens, or raw prompts by default.
- Support. Whatever you send us when you write about an account or a book.
We do not sell personal information. We do not buy marketing lists to populate Book Writer.
How we use it
We use this information to operate your account, write and store your books, charge for usage, prevent abuse, fix problems, and improve reliability. We use email to sign you in, to send transactional messages (for example a payment receipt or a notice that these terms changed), and to answer you when you write to us.
We do not use your manuscripts for advertising. We do not show your unpublished work to other customers.
How we keep it secure
Your data is treated as private to your workspace. In particular:
- The site runs over HTTPS. Session cookies are HttpOnly, SameSite, and marked Secure in production.
- Every request, background job, search, citation, export, and file download is authorized against your workspace. Unguessable identifiers are not treated as a lock.
- Another customer cannot open your books, chat, or files by guessing an address.
- Passwords are stored as hashes, not as the password itself.
- Provider API keys stay on the server. Browsers never see storage-bucket URLs for your covers or packages; downloads go through an authorized route.
- Cover and publish files live in private object storage. Database backups are encrypted in transit and at rest by the host.
- Displayed manuscript and model text is escaped. Generated HTML is not executed.
No internet service is perfectly secure. We work to prevent unauthorized access and to limit what a failure can expose. If we become aware of a breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
Who we share it with
We share data only as needed to run Book Writer:
- AI providers. Excerpts of your idea, plan, and manuscript are sent so the book can be planned, written, checked, illustrated, or discussed. See How AI is used.
- Hosting and storage. The application, database, queue, and media files run on our hosting and object-storage providers.
- Payments. The payment provider receives what it needs to charge you and to tell us that a purchase succeeded.
- The law. We may disclose information if we believe we must in order to comply with a lawful request, or to protect people, the service, or someone’s rights.
These processors act on our instructions. We do not sell or rent your books or your email list.
The service is hosted in the United States and Canada. If you use Book Writer from elsewhere, your information is processed in those regions.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account and books while the account is open. When you delete a book, access ends immediately, active runs are cancelled, and we queue removal of the text, memory, research, exports, and caches. A job that was already in flight cannot recreate a deleted book.
Recoverable backups may retain a copy for up to 30 days, then expire. We may keep a minimal billing or audit record (without the manuscript) for as long as we need it for taxes, disputes, or security.
Your rights
You can access and export your manuscripts from the product. You can edit your name, pen name, and spending limits in account settings. You can delete individual books.
Depending on where you live, you may also have a right to request a copy of the personal information we hold, to correct it, to delete it, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to lodge a complaint with a privacy regulator. To make a request, write to us from the email address on your account. We will need to confirm it is you. We will respond within the time the applicable law allows.
Closing the account and deleting the books is the way to remove your library from the live system. Backup expiry then completes the ordinary destruction of residual copies.
Cookies
We use a session cookie so you stay signed in, and a token that protects forms against cross-site request forgery. These are required for the site to work. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not run a cross-site advertising pixel.
Children
Book Writer is for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Contact
Questions about these terms or this privacy statement, or a request about your data, should come from the email address on your Book Writer account. We use that address so we can match the message to the right workspace.
If we update this page, we will change the date at the top. Material changes will also be sent to the email on the account when we have one.
